The activities of the Crisis Response Association differ from the traditional development cooperation and aid organizations in that instead of assisting the large masses the activities of the Crisis Response Association focus on enabling individual survival in acute individual threat situations. The Crisis Response Association does not focus on community- or region-specific development activities, but on maintaining individual life and health in crisis and conflict situations.

The activities of the Crisis Response Association differ from the work of peacekeepers and bodyguards in that the Crisis Response Association always carries out its operations unarmed without the use or display of physical or mental force.

The activities of the Crisis Response Association are based on civilian activities carried out by civilians, where one civilian seeks to support another civilian. The operations of Crisis Response Association goes beyond international peacekeeping operations to the level of individual survival and aim to support the individual’s own-initiative coping in crisis and conflict situations.

The aim of the Crisis Response Association is not to replace existing organizations, but to fill the gap between them. The goal of the Crisis Response Association is to provide support to those people who have been left silent and who are unable to be supported by other organizations, communities or administrations. In order to achieve this goal, the Crisis Response Association carries out its own operations, co-operates with other organizations and makes its expertise available to other organizations through consulting and training activities.

Every human distress is equally justified and relevant, which is why a comparison of human distress is not relevant.

The goal of the operational activities of the Crisis Response Association is to reach people who are in immediate danger of life or health and who do not receive the acute support they need from the authorities or other communities. There are no geographical restrictions set for the operational activities of the Crisis Response Association, and therefore the Crisis Response Association has no obstacles to operate in Finland as well – if the aforementioned conditions are met.

In Finland, people in acute danger of health and life are very comprehensively supported by the authorities and their networks, which is why the resources of the Crisis Response Association are mainly allocated elsewhere than in Finland.

Regionally, this means that the supported individuals in crisis and conflict zones receive support in or in the immediate vicinity of crisis and conflict zones.

The logistical support of the Crisis Response Association can offer the supported individuals the opportunity to move freely from the area of influence of the acute danger. In practice, this means that supported individuals can be provided with logistical support to the nearest secure location, which is usually located within or in the immediate vicinity of the target country.

The goal of the Crisis Response Association is to implement support measures in such a way that the supported individuals can continue to live as close as possible to their daily lives and living areas.

When working in crisis and conflict circumstances, there are always risks involved. However, the members of the Crisis Response Association have solid experience in demanding risk management, as a result of which the operations of the Crisis Response Association can be carried out quite safely.

The Crisis Response Association makes a continuous assessment of whether the risk-taking related to the implementation of its activities are at an acceptable level in relation to the desired outcome or possible side effects. Most often, however, the life and health of the recipients of the support depend on the support provided by the Crisis Response Association, which is why risk-taking is often less dangerous than leaving the recipients of the support without support.

The activities of the Crisis Response Association is therefore guided by conscious risk-taking, but risk-taking is always the own decision of the recipient of the support. Before the decision making, The Crisis Response Association always offers objective knowledge to the recipients of the support, so that the recipients are able to make independent and informed decisions before taking action.

The operations of the Crisis Response Association are conducted in crisis and conflict circumstances that often lack public order, social structures and human rights.
